You can't fix the pidgin tab color issue by editing the gtkrc, it's a known bug with the application itself. Both normal and active tabs use the same color for labels, so you will either end up with active tabs with white colored text, or inactive tabs with dark colored text (depending on your color choice). There is an old ticket on their bug tracker here :
http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/4115
there is also a recent bug report on Launchpad :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pidgin/+bug/681560
The only way to solve this is by making a patch for the application itself. - Dec 20 2010

Prejudice is always a sign of stupidity. When manifested by so many members of a supposedly open minded and free community it becomes a troubling phenomenon.

The gtk theme is accurate, and although the screenshots should be changed to reflect the actual theme included in the pack, it doesn't deserve to be rated this low because it's actually well made. - Dec 17 2010

The option works just fine, it won't fix the theme preview glitch but it will fix the menubars. You probably forgot to save your settings before reloading the theme or you have 2 instanses of the theme installed at the same time.

If you have installed via ppa make absolutely certain that there is no folder named Orta inside ~/.themes .

If you have installed manually, select the fourth option on the Fixes page, press save, change the theme to something different and then back to Orta.

If the problem persists after you have restarted your session please find the settings.rc file inside ~/.themes/Orta/gtk-2.0/ (or /usr/share/themes/Orta/gtk-2.0/ depending on where you installed the theme) and paste its contents here. - Dec 16 2010

Please provide my with your settings in the settings manager and a screenshot of your problem with nautilus.

The listview problem with thunderbird is something i can't replicate, so it's probably caused by your version of the app. Thunderbird and firefox aren't truly gtk apps, they just emulate the look, and newer versions do a better job at it.

As for the scrollbar highlight, it's not as easy to change as it sounds since it's a pixmap. Also, bear in mind, that every other dark gray highlight is also a pixmap, so a different color scrollbar highlight would look out of place, as it would only affect the scrollbar. Still, tell me what other colors you have in mind and i will experiment. - Dec 09 2010

These are not bugs. You can use nautilus elementary with, or without a menubar (there is an option to hide it when you right click on the nautilus toolbar). If your menubar is visible, you should select the Nautilus elementary Option on the Settings Manager, if you have set the menubar to hidden, then you should use the option use the nautilus Elementary without a menubar option ;). This way nautilus will always be properly skinned.

Thanks for the kind words, support of this kind is what keeps us themers going :). - Nov 25 2010

The fix works, i've tested it, other users have tested it too. With that said, allot of other things could have gone wrong.

Did you save your settings with the Settings Manager before reapplying Orta? Does, changing other aspects of the theme, like tabs or panels, work?

If you have installed for all users, please do (on a terminal)
gedit /usr/share/themes/Orta/gtk-2.0/settings.rc
and paste the contents of the file here.
Likewise, if you performed a normal installation do
gedit ~/.themes/Orta/gtk-2.0/settings.rc
and paste the file contents here. - Nov 23 2010

...the most under-appreciated theme on gnome-look. IMO it's the best dark theme for gnome there is, and it should be on the first page right next to A new Hope.

It's also one of the most expertly crafted pixmap themes, both in code and in pixels :). Kudos for your excellent work ! - Nov 21 2010

I checked it on my end and it seems to be working fine. It might be a problem with the installation part of the settings manager though. Uninstall through the Settings Manager. Make sure that the folders /usr/share/themes/Orta and ~/.themes/Orta don't exist. Then install manually by dragging and dropping the Orta.tar.gz file on the Appearance Preferences window. Give it a try and tell me what happened. - Nov 16 2010

That's depressing... They are constantly changing and changing the gnome panel, making it a nightmare to support multiple versions of it. An Ubuntu Lucid user also has problems with the dark panel. Which gnome-panel version do you use? Is there is any light theme with a dark panel that you use and doesn't have this problem? I can't directly solve this as i am running Ubuntu Maverick, but another theme that works on Fedora might help me solve this indirectly. - Nov 13 2010

Sorry, i thought you meant the scrollbar, i am kind of tired today (extended lack of sleep). The progressbars aren't rounded because the pixmap engine has a redraw bug with transparent progressbars. I needed transparency to make them round due to the gradients and to make the theme color configurable by the user. I also tried using murrine scrollbars but i couldn't get the shadowing to match the rest of the theme. - Nov 13 2010
