As much as i'd like to take credit for the idea, i first saw it in Bespin, a KDE theme. I wanted to do something different at first, but this was the only way i could think of successfully implement unified tabs with gtk. Anything fancier is just not possible at the moment, maybe with gtk3 and location aware widgets... - Oct 27 2010

This line has been there for years, if i remember correctly i'd added it when i was making imetal in a neurotic fit (a button didn't look they way i wanted it). I will remove it when i next update Azel. - Oct 28 2009

Thunderbird is probably buggy cause it's not a native gtk application. I might try making a Thunderbird theme in the future to fix these issues. Right now i am working on Xfwm decorators and maybe a login screen. - Oct 12 2009

The rounded text entries are tricky, in order to make them work right you need to make them specifically for the app (and place on this app) you want them, there is no general way to do this with my theme because of the gradient among other reasons.

You can disable the toolbar icons by browsing inside the theme folder imetal/gtk-2.0 , opening the gtkrc inside a text editor, scrolling to the very bottom of the text and commenting out (puting a # in front of) the line include "icons/iconrc" .

This is tricky, and a bug with the bixbuf engine. You could try editing the gtkrc file and deleting the whole panel section (lines 1370 to 1446). You should also reload the theme after every change you've made to the gtkrc in order to be able to see the results.

Sorry for being so very late in replying , i was serving in the military (obligatory in my country) so i was unavailable to say the least. - Oct 11 2009

This should have been fixed by itself with the new network manager applet in Gnome 2.28.0. I could try fixing this for older versions but it will be hard as i wont be able to easily test it (i am running Gnome 2.28 :P). - Oct 11 2009

This is by far your best theme and probably the best theme in general around here .

I know that you don't mind but i feel i have to say that i don't understand how can this possibly NOT be in the first page. Not just for the elegant design , or incredible pixmap art, but because this theme really tries to do something different that is VERY hard to implement (i know from personal experience , i had tried in the past to do proper vertical lighting and gave up ). This is a site where many votes come from artists, and i feel we should encourage efforts like this, not bury them. - May 24 2008

My theme doesn't change at all the size of the Nautilus toolbar, it's big enough already :P . You could go to appearance preferences on the Interface tab and select Icons only view or you completely hie the toolbar (most users do just that). - May 03 2008

It's great as a concept ,but what impresses me the most about it is that it has a completely different style than your previous themes (i love variety). With your attention to detail this will probably one up SlicknesS as the gnome theme of choice. - May 02 2008

This sounds like a problem with the pixmap engine and panel transparency (meaning i can't fix it). Check with other pixmap themes to confirm this.
You could use compiz for transparency to overcome this issue. - May 02 2008

I've seen Technix , i watch all of Robs works as he is probably the best theme artist around here. The thing is, every theme is based on a concept and Azel was going to be a silver/black theme from the start. I wanted to create something that would look different , and themes like that usually don't please everyone (with the exception of SlicknesS ;) ) . That doesn't mean i am going to ignore feedback or requests , but if i change Azel's color scheme i might satisfy you and dissatisfy others . If Azel could support color adjustments by the user , everyone would be happy but for reasons i explained in my previous reply to you , i would have to change other things (that are part of the Azel look) as well in order to make it happen. What i had in mind to solve all this was to create a similar theme to Azel , that would be less complicated, but faster and would support color adjustments by the user so everyone could be happy. I still want to go ahead with this but i don't know if i will make it in time. In 10 days i have to go away for a 1 year (obligatory in my country ...) military service. So as you can see the problem isn't one of will , but of time. I still might make it though , so stop by gnome look from time to time in the next 10 days. - Apr 30 2008

Sorry, you are right, i should have tested this before replying to you. This should work though :

GtkTreeView::even_row_color = "#8C8C8C"
}

widget_class "NautilusNavigationWindow.GtkTable.NautilusHorizontalSplitter.NautilusSidePane.GtkNotebook.*" style "nautilus-sidebar"

I try to test my themes on color calibrated monitors before releasing. Are you sure that your monitor brightness isn't set too high ?

With that said, tastes differ and what is easy on the eye for me might be tiring to you. The theme in its current form needs allot of work to change colors : Everything is a pixmap and i can't use transparent pixmaps to make the colors user selectable because the full window gradient overlaps with the toolbar gradient. I was thinking of removing the gradient and releasing a lighter version of the theme that would also allow the user to change the coloring , but i don't know if i will make it till my army service starts. - Apr 29 2008

Sorry for the late reply , i was busy preparing an update. Here is what you can do :
style "nautilus-sidebar"
{
base[NORMAL] = "#8C8C8C"
}

widget_class "NautilusNavigationWindow.GtkTable.NautilusHorizontalSplitter.NautilusSidePane.GtkNotebook.*" style "nautilus-sidebar"

Place this inside your gtkrc, preferably after the lines starting with include near the end of the file. - Apr 29 2008

The thunar problems are unfortunately caused by a bug in Hardy :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunar/+bug/203236

The panel problems are the result of a rewrite of some applets in the gnome version that is used in hardy (i still use gutsy). I will install hardy tomorrow and fix those , thanks for bringing them to my attention. - Apr 24 2008

As i've told you before, your panel height must be set to 24 pixels for the panel to look right. Just right click on the panel, select Properties, set size to 24 pixels. The next update will eliminate this kind of problems as the panels will be completely resizable. - Apr 13 2008

I can't replicate your problems , my panel is fine and the logout menu looks fine too. if you can post a screenshot with your problems it would help allot.

Also try completely removing the theme redownload and reinstall it.

As for the icon sizes, go to your .themes directory , browse into Azel/gtk-2.0 and open gtkrc with gedit. Go all the way down to the last line and you will see this :
gtk-icon-sizes = "gtk-large-toolbar=24,24:panel-menu=24,24:gtk-menu=19,19"
change panel-menu values for panel icons and gtk-menu values for menu icons. - Apr 12 2008

The panel looks right only when the size is set to 24 pixels. Does your panelbar look like mine on the screenshots ?

I don't see any bars on my logout screen, do you mean the buttons that pop up on mouse over (they look like all the other buttons in the rest of the theme)?

There won't be a ff3 skin, i simply don't have the time. In less than a month my one year militart service (obligatory in my country) starts so as you can understand my time is indeed limited. Anyway, there are already some very good looking leopard themes for ff3 that will fit inside imetal just fine. - Apr 10 2008
