Since you are on 10.04 you probably need a newer version of murrine as well.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:murrine-daily/ppa
and update murrine, this should do the trick. - Mar 23 2011

Well the cursor thing is kind of a byproduct of using the pixmap engine to do the entries. It's the only way to produce soft shadows like that, but it also has some issues ... As for indication to which entry is active, there is a blue highlight. It's more subtle than the on in Ambiance but to my eyes it's viewable ( though i also happen to work with a fully calibrated IPS monitor).

You are right about the list focus indicator, i removed it because it looked ugly, it didn't cross my mind that people find it useful, sorry.

If i find some free time, i intend to rewrite Orta, and i will try to fix these issues. Thanks for taking the time to report them :). - Mar 20 2011

Usually when ones tries to make something that looks distinct and unique, simplicity goes out of the window. You've managed to produce something that is clean, customizable, good looking, distinct and yet simple, how cool is that ? - Mar 19 2011

That is an indication that the tiheum equinox ppa isn't properly added to your sources list. Repeat the steps:

sudo apt-get update
and then retry:

This is a bug with Java (Swing). It uses a GtkMenu instead of a GtkMenuBar, so when you use darks menus the menubar text is of java apps is light colored (the same color the dark menus use for the menu items text). Unfortunately i can do nothing about it. - Jan 25 2011

The pidgin issue is a known bug with pidgin itself, it uses the same text color for normal and active tabs. You could try using the light or smooth tabs which work fine with it. As for gnumeric, it has this bug with every pixmap theme there is, and i can't fix it (i've tried).

The issues with Turpial are caused by the fact that GtkDrawingArea is drawing its own background instead of following the gradient. This i might be able to fix in a future update. - Jan 13 2011

Yes, i have launched pidgin but i missed the contact name problem, i will fix it in the next release.

As for opera, the statusbar link text is actually white in Opera 11 :
http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee279/SkiesOfAzel/Screenshot.png. The rest of the opera problems are unfixable if you want a working OpenOffice. Opera and OpenOffice are not gtk apps and both are using the same toplevel window and widget paths to emulated gtk. That means that if i try to fix OpenOffice, the same settings will also apply to Opera and i can do nothing about it. If they decide to actually care about gtk emulation and replace the generic GtkWindow they use with something else (like Mozilla did with MozillaGtkWidget), i could actually fix those problems with seperate per application settings, but as long as they don't, i am out of options. - Jan 04 2011

It's to avoid compatibility problems. If i used pixmaps for everything like i did with Orta and my previous themes, many apps would need individual fixes to look right. I could ditch equinox and use murrine for the entries as well, but they wouldn't look as good, or i could use pixmaps for them and loose color transparency. In the end it's all about compromise between the initial vision of the theme, compatibility and speed. - Dec 29 2010

Wingpanel isn't even in alpha state yet and it doesn't support gtk themes. I could try cooking a workaround but the latest version doesn't work on my Natty box. When it does, i will look more into it. Btw, by looking at the code, setting the panel to dark in the Orta Settings Manager might fix the text color. - Dec 23 2010
