So it still looks horrible, haven't tried the engine since a year :)

Regarding the menu, it looks like it is scaled from a smaller size (there is antialiasing), probably from a cache to speed things up. If you know of a KDE style with a menu stripe that does not show this bug, I would be interested to hear about it. Otherwise I would say it is a GTK engine bug. - Jul 15 2009

Make sure midLeftFrameBg.png and midRightFrameBg.png are empty, their width determines the left and right border widths. The masks should not have any effect on the window layout.

Hi tail, how is your theme going?

You are right, I unified the look of the combo boxes for Skulpture 0.2, there was a "button like" read-only combo box in version 0.1.

The code has not been deleted, I plan to add an option for version 0.3, where the user can chose his preferred style, so you could keep yours, too.

For those who want the "button like" combo boxes back now: You can change that in the source code, search for "buttonMode = false", and replace that with "buttonMode = !option->editable" (both occurrences). - May 24 2009

Hi Matthias, Skulpture is not a theming engine with replaceable graphics, so it is not possible to "edit" the theme, unless you change the source code. You might want to look at QuantumStyle, if you want something editable. - May 01 2009

Hi, did you install from source or did you use the packages from my repository at the opensuse site?

I am not sure if my packages work with the updated KDE, because the build service assumes original distribution packages.

If you installed from source code, please use pastebin.com to show me the install_log.txt, maybe you are just missing the kdebase-workspace-devel files.

Also if I understand google correctly, the Skulpture packages are supposed to be in the official Fedora 9, 10, and 11 repositories, so you might try installing it from there. Maybe you need to uninstall old files. See https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/packages/name/kde-style-skulpture - Apr 29 2009

Various KDE 1.-4. Styles by skulptor 133 comments

Thanks for all your suggestions, please keep them coming, I am watching you :)

Some notes:
* Alpha transparency is KDE 4.3 material, and currently there are issues with ARGB decorations and shadows that need to be solved in trunk. I hope to have ARGB support in deKorator when KDE has.
* deKorator definitely needs different layouts for maximized, restored, or shaded windows. I am looking for a way to change the layout without the need to provide hundreds of images.
* There seems to be consensus that themes should have a description file, with Author/Version/URL info, and also additional info about what parts should be scaled instead of tiled etc. I am currently looking what format this file could have, maybe a .desktop file (like Plasma or Windows themes), or something similar to a .css file (i.e. structured data). Cookon has .xml files, but I find these hard to edit manually. - Apr 23 2009

Hi maarizwan, thanks for your requests. Some comments:

1. Are you talking about customizing the background gradient (light effect), or the frame?

2. This seems to be a common request nowadays, it will be addressed in version 0.3. You could use more contrast between Window and Button colors in the meantime.

3. Tab sizes can be configured (you need version 0.2.1), but the spacing is fixed for now, as I did not want to rewrite the tab code for 0.2. I cannot promise if it will change in 0.3, as the spacing is not a big problem.

4. Yes, that is something that was planned to go into 0.2, but did not make it. You could try a different font, as the size depends on it.

5. No! You will get used to the dots. And once you do, you will never want the boxes :)

As for showing the tree elements on hover, I am not sure if it is possible, I will have to investigate when I work on the vivid part of Skulpture (0.5? I do not know...)

If you find more, let us know. - Mar 28 2009

Hi, regarding tile sizes, it is the best to make them as small as possible. If performance is better with larger sizes, deKorator can pre-tile the images to its pixmap caches, but it cannot do the reverse.

Application Styles by skulptor 369 comments

Hi karye, thanks for your feedback.

1) The shadow ("3D effect") is part of every column list view, not part of the window, so when you scroll a column out of the window, the shadow scrolls with it. An early Skulpture version also had the shadow for the whole window, but that looked horrible because of the double shadow. The only fix would be if Dolphin uses a single view for all columns, and does the scrolling inside the view.

2) The underline is the focus indicator. Skulpture 0.2.2 does not show it in item views unless you use the keyboard.

3) As for the scroll bar thumb to look similar to buttons: that was the intention of the designer ;) Please make suggestions for changes. - Mar 22 2009

If theme detection does not work with a theme, you can install it manually:

1. Unpack theme to a permanent location (standard is .kde/share/apps/deKorator/themes/)
2. Go to "Paths" page in deKorator configuration
3. Pick "deco", "buttons", and "masks" directories from unpacked theme
4. Hit Apply

I will improve theme installation in a future version. - Mar 12 2009

Hi david, I did not invest time in focus glow or shadows in the window decoration yet, because the 4.2 API for that is marked as "unstable, WILL change for 4.3" (or something like that). But if time permits, I will have a look again when the new API (supposedly allowing smooth roundness and transparent decorations) is available.

Qt 4.5 has moved icon theme detection from QPlastiqueStyle to QCommonStyle, so with that Qt version the icons should be correct again. I did not dare to copy the whole code just to make it work with Qt 4.4.

Regarding the rendering error: If you use the intel driver, remember that intel has several problems when used as the secondary X session. Also, maybe you are using Compiz? Moving the title is no problem (I already added this to Skulpture 0.2.2), but for real transparency we will have to wait for KDE 4.3.

However, a mask for all pixmaps (like the masks for the round corners) should be possible, but would require an updated deKorator theme format, so you should switch to KDE4 soon :)

Neither KDE 4.2 nor Qt 4.5 are out yet, but beta versions are available. While Skulpture 0.3 has already been branched, I plan to release a 0.2.3 version to make it work perfectly on the new KDE and Qt versions.

If you find something that could be improved, even if you think that it is a small issue, please add a comment. Either here, or use my blog http://kdepepo.wordpress.com/. There is also a Skulpture thread at forum.kde.org, if you need to paste pictures to show problems.

For those who want rounded buttons, I maybe should remind you that you can have them since Skulpture 0.0.3 :) Just find the line that says "k *= 0.1;" in src/skulpture.cpp and replace the number with a higher value (0.2 ... 0.9). - Jan 11 2009
