Well, so long as it works, who cares if it is weird?
KDE3 lives for over 5 years and this 'weird approach' is always the official global option. Why not KDE4 accept it as a global option?
GNOME3 is planning the global menu too and the global2-globalmenu package already works, Wang Hoi had integrated that with xbar, so that xbar shows both global menu for qt program and global menu for gtk+ programs. wow...
Some instructions:
Integrate Gnome-globalmenuļ¼
1.install gnome2-globalmenu
2.checkout trunk/playground/base/plasma/globalmenu , compile and install.
3.export GTK_MODULES=globalmenu-gnome
I haven't tried... - Nov 11 2009

Sounds great. Does this works for oxygen? Does the kde upstream refuse to include your additions?

That's not quite an option for me, because 50% of my applications are gtk+ ones.
I use KDE as my DE mainly for the global menu and kioslaves.

I've already put menus in the top panel, now I think I can put the title in the top panel too.
I like the idea: windows should contain only the contents. screen space is very expensive real estate and application developers should try to minimize screen space overuse.
