...which has now been implemented in this version (7.6). Thanks Urke! - Jun 23 2007
Thanks for the date! - May 29 2007
Yeah, probably. And still, this is just a tip of the iceberg. It's hard to set restrictions to which should or shouldn't be added as it's difficult to find info on a distro's real significance. It's easy to set up a website which gives the impression your distro is the worlds most important one with a large user base. :) Checking repositories and community forums is very time consuming.

My priority is to improve the early years. I wasn't around back then so I have to rely on feedback and the few traces I can find on the net. So... any help appreciated! - May 09 2007
Will add. Thanks.

Just reached 10 000 downloads! \o/ - Apr 26 2007

The bullet marks the date, the 45 degree angle is just a design thing (even though it's not consistent). Derek is right, it's confusing. I'm working on a different layout which will hopefully look better. - Apr 18 2007
Have another look, it's already there. :) - Apr 18 2007
Hello and thanks.

I could use some help on LBA-Linux:
I believe it was Red Hat based and later Fedora, but when did that change?
I have no idea when the first public release was (as "SOT Linux") or when it was renamed Best Linux. Or when the project actually died (as "LBA-Linux"). Anyone?
- Mar 14 2007
Some time back somebody else recommended it (and it is cool indeed), but didn't have the time to get into dot back then. But I'm giving it another shot, and it's looking promising so far. Stay tuned! - Mar 14 2007
Will do. Thanks.

By the way, if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix the Red Hat/Fedora and SUSE/openSUSE trees I'd appreciate it. I guess it's more correct to say Fedora and openSUSE are successors instead of offsprings? - Mar 04 2007
Will be added for the next version. Thanks. - Mar 04 2007
I'll include them. Thanks. - Mar 04 2007
Thanks! Will add.
According to distrowatch it is now discontinued. - Sep 10 2006
Thanks for the link.
My intention for the timeline is to make it somewhat simplified (an example is naming "Debian GNU/Linux" just "Debian"), and since I don't know how to put your suggestion in the timeline without making a mess I think I'll leave it the way it is for now, but I appreciate the comment.
If anyone has comments on this approach, please let me know. - Sep 10 2006
Hi. Trust me, I'm not deliberately trying to "change history".
Any suggestions on how to put that in the timeline? - Sep 04 2006
Good to hear, alexdark. Great job with the first version! U da man. - Sep 04 2006
Lycoris, Caldera and SCO are added now, please let me know if I got things wrong. - Aug 30 2006
Yep, I already fixed MEPIS for the next version which is work in progress so far :) Thanks!

And openSUSE will be added once a proper release is out. - Aug 25 2006
Thanks for the info. However I couldn't find any way to download PhoeNUX OS from the webpage or elsewhere, and it is not listed at (Or is it, but by another name?)

I'll add it once a proper release is out, for sure. - Aug 22 2006
Thanks wedderburn,
I have yet to add Lycoris, which was based on Caldera, which I definitely need help with. I'd appreciate it if anyone could explain the story behind Lycoris/Caldera/SCO/United Linux (/Corel?). :)
- Aug 22 2006
nightwriter, thanks for the input! I added Yggdrasil and some others.

Naturally distros "give and take" from each other, but I haven't found any sources on Red Hat's connection to Slackware, or Gentoo being a split from Sorcerer. This story by the Gentoo founder D. Robbins give me the impression he started from scratch after he left Stampede:

I'd love to add some more of the main Asian distros, but it's hard to find info on when they started (and died) and their connection to other distros.

I removed Linux From Scratch from alexdark's original, but I guess it would make sense to have it included. I could need some help with which distros are LSF-based though.

Perhaps it would be cool if the *BSD's were included as well... Any help on that appreciated too. - Aug 20 2006
Thanks! All credit to alexdark who did the original, however. :) - Aug 16 2006
Those jagged circles are Kivios fault, and they annoy me too. :) With a little restructuring that would be possible, but on the other hand make updates more complicated. I'll give it a try. - Aug 16 2006
Apparently it was originally a German translation of Slackware. - Aug 16 2006

I'm the one who put together the timeline at

I don't mind if the timeline I made is modified (as stated on the image), however I don't understand why you're using my nick and e-mail in it. I did not make this version. Please either change it or remove the entry.

As a side note, the only addition you've made is a cramped in "OZ", which is not much of an update. I assume you're an OZ user/dev. :) I will however add OZ in my version if you don't mind -- so thanks for that info! - May 08 2007

Greatest thing since sliced bread! And now Yakuake comes in a sliced version. Excellent. Can't live without it.

When Francois announced he would stop developing Yakuake I was worried it would die. You've done a great job so far, Sho! Can't wait for the KDE4 port...
- May 06 2007
I cannot paste text into Yakuake with shift+insert - all i get is "~2" (however right clicking and selecting 'paste' works), how do i go about to fix this? - Dec 25 2005

Open Kcontrol > Appearance & Themes > Style.
Select Domino (which you have to install if you haven't already). Click Configure. Choose the Load/Save tab and Import Config. Now browse to the file you've downloaded from here.
The file name extension doesn't really matter. It's probably easier just to right click the Download button on this page and save the target file. - May 05 2007

Is it possible to access it through an entry in Ksmoothdock? (The regular KDE Kicker is called in KSmoothdock with:

Sorry, my bad, didn't make clean the old one, and had to superuser do the make install;

Nice one, thanks! - Dec 06 2005

nice, thank you.

one thing though: how do i use the menu.png and menus.png for those nice-looking right click menus? my mplayer (and xmms, and some other apps) still uses those ugly old-style menus. anyone? - May 08 2005
