Redmond-X theme for Tint2

No way, THE elbullazul replied to me?! :) I am not worthy! I love your work and it's been inspiring me to create more things like this! - May 28 2020
Nooto Tint2

Sorry for the late reply!

I'm...actually not very good at making new things. My talent seems to be re-creating already-existing designs in new media; if you check my work you'll see it's almost all basically ports of Windows or Mac-like themes to Linux/Unix window managers.

This particular theme is a tribute to Kalushary's wonderful Nooto theme, which I used on Fluxbox religiously and wanted a tint2 version of after jumping ship from FB to OB. - Apr 07 2019

I'm not sure if there's a really good XP-alike window manager theme for Openbox, given how its theming primitives work. Any attempt would probably look more like Plastik (and if you'd like to try that, see here:

As I don't know of a way to specify gradients with arbitrary stop points for an .obt theme (unlike the LXQt themes, which are QSS stylesheets...) it's impossible to get Plastik, Luna, Royale, etc. all working properly. There may be a way to get a red close button and leave the others blue, but if there is, I don't know of it yet. - Apr 07 2019

This theme doesn't provide window borders. There are actually some really good Win9x/2K Openbox themes out there, I just didn't have one on me at the moment. Combined with this theme, it would make for a very nice modern take on the old 9x/2K paradigm :) - Apr 07 2019

This looks amazing! I am continually impressed by how good a skilled themer can make IceWM look and this is one of the best skins for it in existence. You are awesome :) - Mar 08 2019

Thanks for replying :)

The icon set is Gnome-Brave, and the GTK theme is Redmond. The information in the upper-left corner is generated by Conky.

I believe the fonts are Tahoma or Segoe UI, which I've copied over from my Windows partition. Sans works fairly well too though. - Nov 08 2010

The "Proprietary License" thing is basically just a way of covering your rear. Strictly speaking, a work that uses or closely mimics the design of another is on slippery grounds.

Fair use would imply it's okay for personal use if you have a copy of the originating work; so, if you have a copy of Vista, you would be okay to use this plus my Aerophilia themes.

In actuality, fair use is under attack, and even this protection won't apply of evil companies like Microsoft get their. So the license as of now is more for my protection than anyone else's. - Oct 25 2009

Looks good! While I wouldn't personally use this, it's great to see things normally associated with the heavier DEs ported down to lighter WMs like IceWM. Keep it up! - Dec 13 2008

This is one of the best things I've seen on the site. It's true-black, elegant, polished, quick (for its use of pixmaps), and easy on the eyes. Well-done! - May 24 2007

Could you possibly make a "true" black version of this? I mean #000000 black, like Leech. I've been trying to, but without knowing how to put a border around things like text entry boxes and buttons the results have been completely unusable. - Apr 17 2007

This is just the Leech theme from with a modification that changes the highlighted button color. Talk about your masturbatory themes... - Mar 05 2007
