Indeed, i got this working now to, i couldnt figure out as to why it was still showing the status of all accounts, turned out i was being a n00b ... it's a resizable area, dragging it down hid all the active accounts ;)

For extra preferences go into Pidgin => Tools => Plugins => Extended Preferences.

Highlight and click Configure Plugin.

However the hide toolbards is not in that, it is however listed in Buddy List Options which is a different plugin and allows you to hide the tool bar.
