GREAT! Thanks its working.
Next question, its ending the file names at the first ., for example
appname-0.1 end up as
Is there a way to make it use the entire dir name?

Thanks, hope I'm not driving your crazy... - Sep 10 2007
Hi I changed

Exec=peazip -add2archive %U

to Exec=peazip -add2sfx %U

and got this error

-add2sfx is no longer accesible

Did I misunderstand your instructions? - Sep 10 2007
thanks so much - Sep 10 2007
I use peazip to create .exes for win clients who are slowly migrating to Ark Linux.

I also use for my windows driver dbase, and to back up data before repairing windows (so I use it about 10 times a day -that's a slow repair day- especially for the pro-bono jobs).

Often times the stock or market compression programs fail, so the .exes that peazip creates helps me to avoid the mess.

Would it be possible to add, both in Linux and ms windows, a compress file/dir to .exe? So I can just right click and compress a directory to an .exe?

Thanks for the great app! - Sep 10 2007
I love the new interface, very efficient. The rewrite also seems to allow it to be redrawn faster and works better with my gtk-qt-engine, so it looks like a kde app.

Once again the speed as improved. Even if it is a gtk app, its one of the best overall crossplatform apps out there.

When I create GPL software CDs for windows (to help in the transition from windows to any F/LOSS OS) the enter kit is just a kit away.

Well done lad! - Aug 15 2007
I don't know what you did, but peazip launches about 3 times faster than it did before. Well done. - Jul 21 2007
Whilst I agree with you in many things, especially about keeping kde apps, for kde and GTK being crap. Some times, an app is so exceptional, it should be allowed through. PeaZip is one of those. It does include a rudimentary konqueror servicemenu that works. - Jul 11 2007
I completely agree. If it works, use it. A good app is a good app, and this is a good app.

It replaced PowerArchiver as my default compression app when I'm stuck repair/reprogramming that other "OS" (which is all the time).

Although, it would be nice to see it for KDE. The GTK interface is very slow. That's my only complaint honest!

Thanks! - Jun 11 2007

I love educational apps, since FLOSS lends itself to that so well. I'm slowly filling up little, not for profit classrooms with Linux machines. These kinds of apps will give kids, who aren't getting the best education because of budget cuts, bad teachers and the like, a better chance.

Well done. - Sep 10 2007

As powerful as the install version but with an advantage in some situations.
The Live CD can be a handy tool for repairs to other operating systems, includes a number of useful tools and a board range of file system support.

The full range of the live CD takes the stress out of recovering data from a virus mangled system.

A good Live CD to have in your live linux collection. - Aug 21 2007

Best Release Yet!

Tested the simplicity of the installer using my friends kids. Ranging from 13 to 5 years old, they were given clearly written instructions on installing AL. 3 clicks for a basic install. They all installed AL, updated it and begin playing around with all the available apps. It was fun.

For a more advanced (and challenging) install, I install AL 07 into Frankenstein, my most horrible test machine. 2 IDE drive, 2 scsi, 1 sata, 1 firewire hd and a usb stick for home and the mess goes on.

No problems. AL 07 install smoothly and even reused the home dir from a yoper (another nice distro) install test on the usb stick.

Overall, AL 07 was able to see and setup more hardware than other distros I have tested, but like all other distros there are some it had problems with. Mostly pure windows dumbware, but with some effort they were made to work.

For problematic machines, live IRC support is there to help one along. From simple questions to install problems. Please keep in mind, of course, the people on the live support channel are volunteers and need to sleep everyone now and again.

The software repository needs some updating but that's in progress and should be done shortly.

Its more than worth a go, I expect that most will be very happy with it, if they do. - Aug 21 2007

I have mppdec in both /usr/bin and /usr/local/bin, but I figured out what is actually going on. mppdec wasn't exexcutable. I don't know why it was but that was the problem. As soon as I fixed that, the complaint stopped.

Well this was my fault, I'm very sorry.
I do so appreciate your time and patience with this.

It doesn't complain about anything else.

I have flaac 1.24, I'm going to upgrade and let you know.

thanks, and again, sorry. - Jun 20 2007
same error for mppdec. I have 1.16, is it that its old or something? If it doesn't affect the apps function does the error matter? I have noted that audio konverter can't convert to ipod formats.

Also, is this want you wanted?

function performchecks {
for prog in $NEEDED

its on line 42 according to kwrite. - Jun 20 2007
You know I made a note of this the firs time I asked you about it. Sorry to bother you and thank you for the quick and patient reply.

So you know, in case it is something we are doing oddly. My distro is ark linux. You can join us at #arklinux on if you have any questions. I would be more than happy to help. I always repay kindness. Develing for FOSS is a great kindness. - Jun 19 2007
One of the most useful apps there is. Convenient well made. I think it gets lots of votes, however I've noticed that when I vote on something, it never seems to go up. Perhaps the voting function is broken?

I do have one question, the install keeps telling me I don't have mppdec installed, I do, its in /usr/bin. What version is it looking for?

Thanks - Jun 19 2007

I have one request, can you add a "choose dir to save to" type setting so I can tell it to save to a given dir and the option to save to the root of that dir?

Thank you in advance. - Aug 06 2007

I've been building soundKonverter for several releases now but never had a chance or reason to use it. None the less, I know a heavy duty converter would come in handy.

Today I had the opportunity to use it. I had to convert some DMR contaminated MS audio files to mp3 so my housemate could use it on her sandisk e280 (which works perfectly under GNU Linux, just open Konq!). When she converted them on her Linux machine, the mp3s came out blank. So I decided to pull out the heavy guns. soundKonverter had no problem with them.

Thank you for this great app. I knew it would come in handy one day! - May 24 2007
